Ben Evans – The Ethical Implications of Machine Learning

Increasingly, machine learning and other algorithmic techniques are having an impact on our world and society. In this talk, Ben Evans examines the ethical dimension of this trend. Problems of inbuilt bias, civil (and even criminal) liability and ultimate ownership of consequences from actions taken by algorithms – which were purely theoretical just a few years ago – are now a daily reality.

This talk raises the question as to whether modern societies have the tools – both moral and legal – to adequately address the new challenges that arise from this new reality and takes a look at where we go from here.
